A WILD WEEKEND AT SEVENOAKS RESERVE

INDEPENDENT AUTHORS SUPPORTING ACTION FOR CHILDREN IN CONFLICT

Action for Children in Conflict works to assist and transform the lives of children affected by various forms of conflict or crisis be it war, extreme poverty, hunger, illness, persecution, or neglect. They focus on education including the provision of library/books and facilities, providing  help to some of the most disadvantaged, disenfranchised and socially excluded children and young people in Africa.

Indie Author David Elliot has arranged to supply some of the Independent Authors Group’s books to Action for Children; the charity will keep the lion’s share of the profit on all the books they sell.

There will be a presentation of the work of Action for Children in Conflict in Kenya at John Mason School Wootton Road, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, OX14 1JB on Monday 7th September. The event starts at 6.15 pm.

For details of the event, email info@actionchildren.org.

KENT GOES WILD AT SEVENOAKS RESERVE

UK Independent Authors donated £1 for every book sold last weekend at Kent Wildlife Trust’s Festival of Wildlife at Sevenoaks Reserve.

The sun shone, the birds twittered and warbled, the music played and the man with the chainsaw made the most amazing sculptures and craft works. Authors Sue Rule and Phil Symons chatted to lots of people about Indie Authors - and sold some books!

Susan Pope had a successful trip to Dover in July when she visited the Centenary Celebrations to mark the first aeroplane crossing of the English Channel by French aviation pioneer, Louis Bleriot. Susan was signing copies of her book LIGHTER THAN AIR, a fictional account of the Hindenburg Airship disaster. Clearly, a title which proved very popular with the audience for these celebrations.

Susan is also representing Kent in the finals of the Vintage Inns Pub Poet competition - you can vote for her entry “A Taste of Summer” on www.vintageinn.co.uk

All sales of LIGHTER THAN AIR and Susan’s book of poetry, ‘Song of the Jaguar and other poems’ help to raise funds for THE SPECIAL TRUSTEES OF MOORFIELDS EYE HOSPITAL, towards their research into inherited eye diseases.
